Genesis envisions to develop a vibrant collaborative research and development team of big data Analytics and machine learning composed of university professors, scientists, and HQPs. We aim to provide data-enabled innovative services to various public and private clients, including Oil & Gas, Water & Wastewater, manufacturing, mining, travel & hospitality, finance, and not-for profit organizations. Our current R&D initiative includes development of data-enabled model and software that can predict corrosion in Oil & Gas operations.
The industrial direct cost of corrosion (inspection, maintenance, repair, etc..) is estimated to cost about 3% of the GDP of Canada and developed countries; the indirect cost (penalties, litigation, etc..) is another 3%. At present the Oil & Gas industry implement planned approach (scheduled maintenance) to manage corrosion. The average downtime (per pipeline/operator) is 9 days/yr. when planned approach is implemented, while that of data-enabled approach is 6 days/yr. Downtime results in huge financial impact due to reduced throughput from mechanical, integrity inspection or other causes. On average, pipeline operator’s loss $224,000/day ($2 million/yr.) due to reduced throughput when planned approach is implemented. Proactive (data enabled) approach reduces cost by 20%.
Oil and Gas companies have published commitments on sustainability and reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emission targets. Digitalization of operations is an important tool to achieving these targets. For example, corrosion loops can be developed utilizing Data Science and Machine learning (ML) algorithms to optimize risk-based inspection (RBI) methodology. Furthermore, ML based analytics can help to predict energy usage in operations to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emission by eliminating non-value adding processes and optimizing algorithms to reduce overall energy usage.
While our primary specialty is to develop data-enabled technologies, we perform needs-based laboratory analysis/testing in state-of-the-art collaborative laboratories to substantiate our data analytics endeavor. Sometimes, field investigation is all that is required to yield data that decisions can be made from. Depending on clients’ requirements, we perform surveys, sample selection or collection and gathering anecdotal historical information from relevant sources.
